As model providers move much closer to the end user, some of the more successful apps built on top of them become a threat, sometimes resulting in cutoffs, restrictions, and lockouts.

Consumers may not outright ask for a flexible platform but they do want to mix and match. They want the best interface and the best model and such things can and do change in an evolving market.

The industry has been drifting toward a model where apps are tightly coupled to specific providers and this is not so good for users as the consumer will end up with whatever model company decides to let through.

Everyone says they want openness ... until their incentives change. Consumers should expect to see a lot more of this. This should be a cautionary tale to developers and consumers building and buying in an ever changing market as we are still in the early stage of the AI landscape. Build and buy with great change and evolution in mind.
